This week the home technology community comes together in San Diego for the CEDIA EXPO. The annual show encompasses the best in smart home technology, including AV, security, lighting, and consumer electronics.

The power of TecVision.
Draper’s focus this week will be on projection and the importance of ambient light rejection. We’ll demonstrate with our award-winning TecVision CS1000X ALR. This surface rejects 82 percent of ambient light, making it ideal for spaces where there’s high ambient light with no way to control it. The TecVision CS1000X ALR’s half gain angle is 20 degrees and should be viewed within 30 to 35 degrees off-axis.

We will also be hyping our other TecVision ALR materials, including XH800X UST ALR. Introduced at InfoComm 2018, XH800X UST ALR is formulated for use with Ultra-Short Throw (UST) and short throw projectors in moderate to high ambient light applications for improved contrast and color saturation. It rejects 57% of off-axis ambient light, while supporting extremely wide viewing angles.

Reducing projector heat and noise.
Today’s digital projectors can put out a lot of heat, and cooling fan noise can be a big distraction, especially in home cinemas where shorter throw distances put the projector closer to the audience. At CEDIA we will be sharing our solution called the Silent Partner. With Silent Partner, projector heat and noise are no longer a problem. The enclosure is designed to hold projectors from 5,000—15,000 ANSI lumens with a convoluted exhaust airflow path and acoustic insulation foam to greatly reduce any sound from the projector. A thermostatic fan control ensures proper projector cooling. Lockable access doors allow for easy projector service. The Silent Partner mounts beneath most ceilings and can also be attached to a projector lift to conceal the unit when not in use.

CEDIA training.
A major part of CEDIA is training. Hundreds of courses are on offer, and this year Draper western region manager Randy Reece has been invited by CEDIA to present “Projection Screen Science Made Simple.”

During the class Randy will review the different types of screen surfaces available and using an online projection planner to choose the right size, format, and type of projection screen to meet relevant standards for every installation, including the new CEDIA CEA CEB23. The course will include demos of different screen surface types, and we will work through some training examples together for a more hands-on experience.

The course takes place Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. in room 32A. It is worth 1.5 CEU credits.

Custom audiovisual solutions.
Custom is so important to this channel that it’s part of the CEDIA name (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association). We are partnering with Leyard and Planar to bring our custom audiovisual solutions message to the Expo in the form of LED Mounting Solutions for the Leyard TVF Series video walls. This ADA-compliant mount features independent X-Y-Z adjustments for fast and flawless installation. Native 16:9 HD sizes include 5 x 5 (137″ D), 6 x 6 (164″ D), 8 x 8 (219″ D), and more. Custom sizes and aspect ratios are available using the same design, and there are options for free-standing, flying, and curved video walls. You can see our mounting solution in Leyard and Planar’s booth (4801).

We’ll see you in San Diego!
